It is a beautiful day in SE Kansas. Have been working on getting the fence row cleaned up. County should be putting in a new culvert soon. Fergus helped getting some compost on the rows. Hops should start budding soon,

Annual hay bale pic

The hay meadow was baled yesterday. Had to make sure we got our annual haybale picture. Either the bales are getting smaller or Elsa bigger!

Hop irrigation

Got all of the main irrigation lines fused together. Need to rent the trencher next week and get them buried. I have some motorized valves on order. Will have to build/program an irrigation controller.

Getting cables up on new rows.

Two more rows of cables are up. The rows are near a terrace, made using the lift a challenge. The new Galena hop plants in these rows are doing well.

Holes ready for more trellis

Chinnok hops from first year bines

We went down to the hop field, this evening. Roasted some hotdogs and picked a row of first year Chinnok hops. The row of Chinnok did very well. They were the first planted this spring and were at the bottom

Ready to expand

The rest of the field is mowed and the holes drilled to expand the hop trellis. Just need a few more poles and will be ready to plant first thing next spring. Fergus (lower left) always comes along to supervise

Hand picked Cascade hops

Holly and I hand picked a nice batch of Cascade hops this morning. Even after washing my hands, they are still yellow. Stained in lupulin. The hops smell so good. We were afraid they would be past their prime next

Elsa has had her picture taken on a hay bale every summer of her life. I obvious held her up for the first several. Those days have sadly past. Nowadays she dances on top and doesn’t even need much help
